Acceptable Paintings
May 9 – June 20, 2024

Pech is pleased to present “Acceptable Paintings”, an exhibition of new works by Marianne Vlaschits.

For the show, Vlaschits involved herself in a historic dispute carried out between two rivaling French artist groups in the 17th century: What has more importance in a painting, colors and emotions, or drawing and concept? Is it acceptable to paint purely in order to give pleasure to the viewer—or, in this case, to the artist herself?

Vlaschits received her masters from the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna in 2010 and has since exhibited her work internationally. Recent solo exhibitions include “Danger Season”, la BEAST, Los Angeles (2023); “Orbs and Awe” at L’Inconnue, New York (2022). Recent group exhibitions include “Darker, Lighter, Puffy, Flat”, Kunsthalle Wien; “Über das Neue”, Belvedere 21, Vienna; “On Beauty”, Galerie Crone, Vienna (all 2023); “Wells of Wisdoms”, MeetFactory, Prague (2022); “Contrology”, Kunstraum Riehen, Basel (2021).
